Statue of Liberty and Occupy Wall Street

Had to post two pics today, the first from Battery Park of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island and the second of the line of police vehicles at One Liberty Plaza across from Zuccotti Park and Occupy Wall Street at 5:30 pm on 11.14.11. A quote from an occupier this evening "You don't have to occupy, you just have to educate yourself."

Art House Picture Frames and Gallery, Portland, Maine

Dropped off two more pastels for framing for my solo show at Art House in December.  Love this view of the the courtyard.  My junior year painting studio at Portland School of Art (now MECA) was on the second floor of the Calderwood Bakery Building at the left right by the duct work.  The current show in the gallery is Nathaniel Larrabee's beautiful Portland cityscapes, be sure to visit on First Friday!  My December show will be "A Year in Pastel," all pastels done plein air based on two of Wolfe's Neck that set my work off in an entirely new experimental direction.

October 2 to October 8, 2011

Pics from my eight day painting trip to the Katahdin area and Katahdin Lake Wilderness Camps.  This year was a tough weather trip, lots of rain and wind and cold.

Oct 2, 2011, Sandy Stream Pond in the rain, a nice quiet hike at sundown, no moose to be seen.
Oct 3, 2011 on the Golden Road, every time that I got out of the car the rain started.
Oct 5, 2011 Katahdin Lake just after flying in, had a brief window at sunrise where the wind quieted enough to fly in after a day delay due to heavy low clouds and high winds and rain.
Oct 6, 2011 sunrise on Katahdin Lake.
Oct 7, 2011 alpine glow sunrise on Katahdin Lake.
Oct 8, 2011 view from the plane, thank you Katahdin Air Service for another safe trip.  The weather cleared out on my last day at Katahdin Lake, enjoyed a beautiful morning painting and saying goodbye's to new and old friends from my stay.  A beautiful view of Mt Katahdin and environs.

Golden Road, Maine

Scary when these big rigs go past where I am painting on the Golden Road, maybe a little overloaded?  The next one after this nearly tipped on this same curve in the road...was ready to dive for the ditch!  Then I saw a big moose just below Abol Bridge.

Fish Beach, Monhegan Island, Maine

I painted on Fish Beach most of the day and it was warm!  An Outward Bound group was spending time on the Island on this boat and learning and exploring.  The water was perfect for swimming, very calm.  A native Mainer and my first trip to Monhegan!  Beautiful!
